Cabarrus Bank & Trust Honors Teacher of the Year
and
Outstanding Business
Tuesday, May 13th 2008 - Albemarle, NC - Cabarrus
Bank & Trust honored Cabarrus County’s 2007-2008 Teacher of the Year Sara Parnell recently at the company’s Annual Meeting of Shareholders. Mrs. Parnell is a Fourth Grade Teacher at Mount Pleasant Elementary School. “Teachers have a special mission of helping mold and encourage our children to be what they can be, to dream big dreams and realize those dreams,” said Doug Stafford, Cabarrus Bank & Trust’s Board of Directors’ Chair, who recognized Mrs. Parnell.
“Sara knew she wanted to be a teacher while she was a student in high school. She began teaching in 2002 and chose elementary education because she enjoyed the curriculum and liked teaching all the subjects and integrating them together as much as possible to create meaningful connections for the students. Sara also likes having the same group of students for the day and this allows her to form a close bond with the students as well as parents.”

Carolina Pizza Huts Inc. was also honored by Cabarrus Bank & Trust as its Outstanding Business Honoree. “Terry Engstrom got into the pizza business quite by accident” said Pat Horton, President and CEO of Cabarrus Bank & Trust. “After being laid off from a trucking company in Kansas, where he worked full time, he became an assistant manager at a Pizza Hut. He enjoyed the job and was promoted to Area Supervisor. An opportunity presented itself to move to North Carolina and operate 6 area Pizza Hut restaurants.
The move proved to be a success and with the assistance of others, Terry has purchased other Pizza Hut ventures. The Sonic Franchise was added in 1991 and future plans include building a strip mall in China Grove and opening a Pizza Hut. Carolina Pizza Huts has a strong dedication to Cabarrus County and are making a difference in the community by providing good jobs for local people, and by helping to create community wealth right here at home.”
Mrs. Parnell was presented a monetary donation and a desk clock frame from Cabarrus Bank & Trust. The clock frame featured an original piece of art depicting Mrs. Parnell’s area of teaching. Terry and Sandy Engstrom of Carolina Pizza Huts were presented with a grandfather wall clock.
