Lindsey Smith Receives Great Honors
Monday, March 27th 2006 - Albemarle, NC
- Uwharrie
Capital Corp's very own Lindsey Smith received
a prestigious honor Monday and was a recipient of the Teaching
Fellows Scholarship. Out of 1,900 applicants the award was
given to only 500 high school seniors in the State of North
Carolina.
In addition to the Teaching Fellows Scholarship,
Lindsey was also named the district winner in the NC Federation
of Women’s Clubs Sallie Southall Cotton Scholarship
competition. Early in February, Lindsey interviewed with
the Stanly County Chapter of the Junior Women’s Club
and was named the county recipient. She then went on to the
state competition and placed 4th out of 9 contestants.
Lindsey has worked within the Uwharrie Capital
Corp family on a part-time basis for two years.
She is a
senior at Albemarle High School and will attend the University
of North Carolina at Charlotte in the Fall of 2006. Her lifelong
dream has been to become an elementary school teacher. With
these honors, she is one step closer to fulfilling that dream.
During her Albemarle High School career,
Lindsey has maintained over a 4.0 GPA including high honor
roll, and nearly perfect attendance. She is a member of the
National Honor Society, BETA Club, and was a Junior
Marshall at graduation. She stays busy as a member of the
varsity cheerleading squad, Student Council, Junior Civitans,
Principal Advisory Committee, Spanish Club, and president
of Future Teachers of America, as well as, editor of the
school yearbook.
Friend and co-worker Anita Carpenter speaks
for all of us when she says, “We are so proud of Lindsey
and her accomplishments. She’s worked so hard for this
and no one deserves it more. We wish her lots of luck at
UNC-Charlotte, but want her to remember she always has family
here at Uwharrie Capital Corp.”
