Bank of Stanly Honors Teacher of the Year and Outstanding Business

Albemarle, NC – Bank of Stanly honored Stanly County's 2009-2010 Teacher of the Year Shawn Britt recently at the company's Annual Meeting of Shareholders. Mr. Britt, who is currently an Assistant Principal at West Stanly High School, was a U.S. History Teacher at West Stanly High School when he was selected for Teacher of the Year. "Teachers have a special mission of helping mold and encourage our children to be what they can be, to dream big dreams and realize those dreams," said Jerry Long, Bank of Stanly's Board of Directors' Chair, who recognized Mr. Britt. Shawn chose teaching as a profession because it provided him an opportunity to share his passion of history with others. Mr. Britt received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from UNC-Charlotte along with a certification in Social Studies Secondary Education. Shawn is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Education Leadership from Wingate University and will graduate in December 2010".

Bank of Stanly also recognized Greene's Catering and Amusements of Albemarle as its 2010 Outstanding Business. "Serving the financial needs of local families and businesses is more than providing checking accounts and making loans…it's about building relationships. Our Stanly County Outstanding Business honoree, Greene's Catering and Amusements of Albemarle, is an excellent example of this" said Bill Lawhon, President and CEO of Bank of Stanly. Ron Greene always dreamed of owning his own business and in 1983 it became a reality when he opened Greene's Butcher Shop. Later the Butcher Shop was closed as their catering business increased. Amusements were later added so that their marketing slogan of "One Stop Does It All" was true! Greene's Catering and Amusements often assists behind the scenes for various community groups and churches including serving Uwharrie Capital Corp this very night."

Bank of Stanly presented Mr. Shawn Britt a monetary gift and a desk clock frame which featured an original piece of art depicting Mr. Britt's area of teaching. Ron and Faye Greene were presented a grandfather wall clock in appreciation of their contribution to the local economy.
